A une heure de Paris, en voiture ou en transport commun, Provins, qui est classé au Patrimoine Mondial de l’Unesco, permettra de vous plonger dans le Moyen-Age, le temps d’une journée.
En arrivant, allez directement à l’Office du Tourisme pour prendre votre PASS Provins qui comprend les visites de la Tour César, Grange aux dîmes, Souterrains et Musée. Planifiez avec l’hôtesse l’heure de visite des souterrains (qui peut se faire uniquement en visite guidée) et réserver aussi votre spectacle (Les Aigles des Remparts et/ou La Légende des Chevaliers, pour ma part, j’ai pris les Aigles et je vous le conseille, les Chevaliers ce sera pour une autre fois ), vous bénéficierez ainsi d’un tarif réduit.
Il fait bon flâner dans Provins, tout se fait à pieds (il y a aussi un petit train pour ceux qui ne veulent pas marcher). Deux parties composent la ville : le Châtel (le « haut »), la partie médiévale où les rues sont piétonnes et le Val (le « bas ») centre-ville « moderne ». Dès l’entrée dans le Châtel, après l’office de Tourisme, on est face aux remparts et à la magnifique Porte Saint-Jean du XIII ème siècle. En empruntant la rue du même nom, vous passerez par la Grange aux dîmes, maison typique de Provins avec sa salle voûtée, que vous pourrez visiter pour vous plonger directement dans l’atmosphère de l’époque. L’audio-guide est gratuit (prêt contre une pièce d’identité), ne l’oubliez pas. Vous monterez ensuite dans la Tour César où s’offre un panorama de la ville et ses environs. Pour le déjeuner…direction place du Châtel pour manger en terrasse si le temps le permet et s’il reste de la place (allez-y pour 12h15). Je vous conseille la planche classique au César Gourmand, produits du terroir avec ses frites fraîches accompagnée d’une bière locale. Vous pouvez aussi pique-niquer sur une aire si vous le souhaitez. La visite des souterrains apportera une touche de fraîcheur. Véritable labyrinthe, suivez bien le guide et écoutez le aussi ;-). Pour le spectacle des Aigles des Remparts, placez vous au milieu, tout en bas ou tout en haut. Les rapaces sont majestueux et passeront près de vous…parfois très très près :-). Le Musée ponctuera votre PASS, il est installé dans une des plus vieilles maisons de la ville et présente quelques collections historiques. Entre toutes ses visites, vous pourrez monter sur les remparts, goûter des spécialités à la Rose, vous balader tranquillement. N’oubliez pas de passer par le Val, partie basse de la ville pour découvrir ses lavoirs d’époque.

One hour from Paris, by car or by public transport, Provins, classified as a World Heritage Site by Unesco, will allow you to dive into the Middle Ages for a day.
On arrival, go directly to the Tourist Office to take your PASS Provins which includes visits to the César Tower, Tithes Grange, Underground and Museum. Plan with the hostess the time of visit of the underground (which can be done only on guided tour) and also reserve your show (The Aigles des Remparts and / or The Legend of the Knights, for my part, I took the Eagles And I advise you, the Knights will be for another time), you will thus benefit from a reduced rate.
It is good to stroll in Provins, everything is on foot (there is also a small train for those who do not want to walk). Two parts make up the town: the Châtel (the « high »), the medieval part where the streets are pedestrian and the Val (the « down ») downtown « modern ». From the entrance to the Châtel, after the tourist office, you are in front of the ramparts and the magnificent Porte Saint-Jean of the 13th century. By taking the street of the same name, you will pass by the Tithes Grange, typical house of Provins with its vaulted room, which you can visit to dive directly into the atmosphere of the time. The audio guide is free (loan against ID), do not forget it. You will then climb to the César Tower where you can enjoy a panorama of the city and its surroundings. For lunch … direction Place du Châtel to eat on the terrace if the weather allows it and if there is room (go there for 12:15). I recommend the classic plate to the César Gourmand, local produce with its fresh fries accompanied by a local beer. You can also picnic on an area if you wish. The visit of the underground will bring a touch of freshness. True labyrinth, follow the guide well and listen to it too ;-). For the spectacle of the Eagles des Remparts, place yourself in the middle, all the bottom or at the top. The raptors are majestic and will pass near you … sometimes very very close :-). The Museum will punctuate your PASS, it is installed in one of the oldest houses of the city and presents some historical collections. Between all its visits, you can climb the ramparts, taste specialties at the Rose, walk quietly. Do not forget to go through the Val, the lower part of the city to discover its period wash houses.
