Retour sur l’événement électro du week-end : l’Elektric Park Festival ou EPK.

Bien qu’il s’agisse de la 12ème édition, j’assiste pour la première fois à ce rendez-vous incontournable pour tous les aficionados de Psy Trance, Dub Techno, Deep House, Frenchcore et Hardtek, Hardcore et j’en passe… Eh oui, l’étendue de cette musique est vaste et l’EPK compte bien mettre en avant cette diversité ! Au programme, des têtes d’affiches qui parlent aux plus anciens (dont je fais partie 😉 ) comme Joachim Garraud, Martin Solveig, Etienne De Crécy, Boombass mais aussi la relève avec Bakermat, Sefa, Hysta.

Arrivé à la station RER de Chatou-Croissy, en l’absence de signalétique particulière, j’ai suivi le mouvement des teufeurs et emprunté le pont de Chatou pour rejoindre l’île des Impressionnistes où l’événement se tient. 5 scènes se partagent ce site bucolique. Il est assez facile d’aller et venir de l’une à l’autre. On y trouve les traditionnels stands de nourriture avec un large choix (pizza, burger, pâtes, hotdog, bonbons, barbe à papa,…), des bars (bières, softs, redbull 😉 pour garder la pêche,…) mais aussi une friperie vintage, un vendeur de bobs/lunettes de soleil, des T-Shirt, du body-painting, des jeux d’arcade,… du saut à l’élastique et un manège à sensations fortes. Le public est plutôt jeune ce qui explique la typologie des stands.
L’ambiance est bon enfant et secure ( très loin de l’image véhiculée par les médias pour les musiques électroniques), décomplexée avec des looks improbables, bref relax cool. Contrairement aux festivals plus rock, parfois « statiques », les festivaliers prennent plaisir à lâcher leur portable et danser, d’autant plus qu’il y a de l’espace.

Les points forts de l’EPK :
– on s’ouvre à des sons et des rythmes qui se démarquent de la musique mainstream. L’ambiance festive, les jeux de lumières et les visuels diffusés sur des écrans font qu’on se laisse « entraîner » par cette belle énergie,
– l’amplitude horaire avec des sets qui commencent dès 11h et qui se finissent à une heure pas trop tardive, permettant de rentrer chez soi en transports en communs,
– la programmation pointue et de qualité, qui permet à chacun de trouver son bonheur,
– la proximité des artistes avec le public.

Les artistes justement, parlons-en. Je ne vais pas pouvoir parler de tout le monde (+ de 80 DJS présents) car déjà je ne les ai pas tous vus , je ne peux pas me démultiplier sur 5 scènes :-). Pour voir un maximum d’artistes, je dois naviguer entre les scènes et me contenter parfois seulement d’une partie des sets.
La tendance est au b2b voire b2b2b. Le b2b ou back to back est la collaboration de deux artistes sur un DJ SET. « Le terme est né du temps où, en soirée et en discothèque, les bacs à disques et les flight cases étaient souvent entreposées derrière le DJ, ce qui fait que lorsque l’un jouait et que l’autre se tournait pour fouiller les disques à disposition, ils se retrouvaient dos à dos » (source Greenroom).
Le samedi, sur la Red Stage, consacrée principalement à la musique hardcore ou s’en approchant, Le BASK b2b Vortek’s et MAD DOG b2b Amine ont mis le feu au public, ça pulse et ça danse frénétiquement. Sur la Black Stage, j’ai bien aimé Antonin, un DJ éclectique ; sur la Blue, Zomboy et son univers psychédélique. Sur la Yellow, la plus grande scène, Space 92 b2b Popof, Mr Oizo, Joachim Garraud, Avoriaz ont réalisé des sets de haut vol que j’ai particulièrement appréciés.
Le Dimanche, sur l’Orange Stage, Arnaud Rebotini égal à lui-même, la « force tranquille », a conquis le public. Sur la Purple Stage, j’ai découvert Hysta et sa musique hardcore. Sur la Black, Rezone et sa techno progressive m’ont fait passer un bon moment. Enfin sur la Yellow, Breakbot b2b Yulsek, Bakermat restent des valeurs sûres. Enfin un b2b2b, Boombass, Etienne De Crecy et DJ Falcon ont clôturé le festival à 21h30 dans une ambiance survoltée. On rêve déjà à l’année prochaine…:-)

Back to the electro event of the weekend: the Electric Park Festival or EPK.

Although this is the 12th edition, I attend for the first time this unmissable event for all aficionados of Psy Trance, Dub Techno, Deep House, Frenchcore and Hardtek, Hardcore and so on. .. Yes, the scope of this music is vast and the EPK intends to highlight this diversity! On the program, headliners who speak to the oldest (including myself ;-)) such as Joachim Garraud, Martin Solveig, Etienne De Crécy, Boombass but also the next generation with Bakermat, Sefa, Hysta.

Arrived at the Chatou-Croissy RER station, in the absence of any particular signage, I followed the movement of partygoers and took the Chatou bridge to reach the island of the Impressionists where the event is being held. 5 scenes share this bucolic site. It is quite easy to go back and forth from one to the other. There are traditional food stalls with a wide choice (pizza, burger, pasta, hotdog, sweets, cotton candy, …), bars (beers, soft drinks, redbull 😉 to keep fishing, .. .) but also a vintage thrift store, a hats/sunglasses seller, T-Shirts, body-painting, arcade games,… bungee jumping and a thrill ride. The public is rather young, which explains the typology of the stands.
The atmosphere is good-natured and secure (very far from the image conveyed by the media for electronic music), uninhibited with improbable looks, in short, cool relaxation. Unlike more rock festivals, which are sometimes « static », festival-goers take pleasure in dropping their laptops and dancing, especially since there is space.

The strengths of the EPK:
– we open up to sounds and rhythms that stand out from mainstream music. The festive atmosphere, the play of lights and the visuals broadcast on screens make you let yourself be « carried away » by this beautiful energy,
– the time amplitude with sets starting at 11 a.m. and ending at a not too late hour, allowing you to go home by public transport,
– the sharp and quality programming, which allows everyone to find what they are looking for,
– the artists’ proximity to the public.

The artists precisely, let’s talk about it. I won’t be able to talk about everyone (more than 80 DJs present) because already I haven’t seen them all, I can’t multiply on 5 stages :-). To see as many artists as possible, I have to navigate between the stages and sometimes settle for only part of the sets. The trend is towards b2b or even b2b2b. The b2b or back to back is the collaboration of two artists on a DJ SET. « The term originated from the days when, in the evenings and in discotheques, record bins and flight cases were often stored behind the DJ, so that when one was playing and the other turned to search the discs available, they found themselves back to back » (source Greenroom).
On Saturday, on the Red Stage, devoted mainly to hardcore music or approaching it, Le BASK b2b Vortek’s and MAD DOG b2b Amine set the audience on fire, it pulsates and dances frantically. On the Black Stage, I really liked Antonin, an eclectic DJ; on Blue, Zomboy and his psychedelic universe. On the Yellow, the biggest stage, Space 92 b2b Popof, Mr Oizo, Joachim Garraud, Avoriaz performed high-level sets that I particularly appreciated.
On Sunday, on the Orange Stage, Arnaud Rebotini equal to himself, the « quiet force », conquered the public. On the Purple Stage, I discovered Hysta and its hardcore music. On the Black, Rezone and its progressive techno gave me a good time. Finally on the Yellow, Breakbot b2b Yulsek, Bakermat remain safe bets. Finally a b2b2b, Boombass, Etienne De Crecy and DJ Falcon closed the festival at 9:30 p.m. in a supercharged atmosphere. We are already dreaming about next year… 🙂
