Pour sa douzième édition, le Youngtimers Festival passe sur deux jours. Le mythique anneau de l’autodrome de Linas-Montlhéry accueillait sur ce week-end des 15 et 16 Avril les voitures d’après 1990 (définition d’une « youngtimer »). Initialement, je devais y venir pour la journée du samedi, mais vu la météo pluvieuse et glaciale, j’ai opté pour le soleil et la journée du dimanche ;-). Bien m’en a pris car la parade finale, moment toujours assez spectaculaire, est venu clore le Festival.
Ce rendez-vous de passionnés est l’occasion d’apprécier un plateau très hétéroclite de véhicules « youngtimer » mais pas que : il y a aussi du plus ancien avec par exemple une Simca 1000 Rallye et du plus récent aussi avec une Porsche GT2. Sont également appréciées les belles mécaniques d’autres époques. Des véhicules haut de gamme (Porsche, Ferrari, BMW,…) côtoient des véhicules usuels (Peugeot 205, Super 5, Citroën BX). C’est bien cette diversité qui fait le charme de l’événement. Des souvenirs peuvent ressurgir. Pour ma part un Renault Espace 1 m’a replongé dans les départs en vacances de ma jeunesse ! Quand je vois aussi l’engouement pour les GTI, je me dis que je n’aurais jamais dû me séparer de ma 205 GTI pour une bouchée de pains…si j’avais su !
L’exposition statique permet d’approcher quelques pépites : une magnifique Nissan 300 ZX bi-turbo, une Datsun turbo avec son toit Targa (escamotable), un van Volkswagen T3 Westfalia (toit tente dépliable) Synchro (version 4X4) ou encore une Golf G60 bodybuildée, de discuter avec les propriétaires et d’échanger quelques astuces. Certains font le show en faisant vrombir frénétiquement leur moteur ou encore en mettant la sono à fond ! Il y aussi pas mal de tuning, les puristes critiqueront, mais il en faut pour tous les goûts et franchement certaines « créations » sont sympas, se révélant parfois pleine d’humour.
Les participants se font aussi plaisir lors de sessions de roulages (4 fois 20 minutes possible pour chacun) avec 4 groupes:
1 : Les Françaises moins de 1600 cm3,
2 : Les Françaises plus de 1600 cm3,
3 : Le reste du monde moins de 2L (multimarques),
4 : Le reste du monde plus de 2L (multimarques).
On monte en haut de l’anneau pour le fun, on double, on dérape, certains s’en donnent à cœur joie, d’autres sont plus prudents. Des véhicules modifiés roulent aussi avec des moteurs gonflés (330 chevaux par exemple pour une 205), ça dépote ! De puissants véhicules luxueux passent les courbes avec un charmant roulis ;-). C’est un véritable spectacle !
Spécialiste ou amateur, vous pouvez chiner dans un village marchand où vous trouverez notamment artistes, vendeurs de vêtements, d’accessoires ou de miniatures, bref, un mini village ! Et présence de Food trucks pour les affamés.
Un concours Best of Show se tient par ailleurs sur les 2 jours d’évènement. Comme le souligne l’UTAC, il vise à récompenser les plus belles automobiles selon des critères bien définis : état d’origine, aspect extérieur et intérieur, historique, état mécanique, histoire racontée par son propriétaire. Les Prix du Jury sont la Matra Bagheera et la Peugeot 205 turbo 16 pour la journée du samedi et la Toyota Supra MK4 pour la journée du dimanche.
Pour moi, la VW Golf 1 Cabriolet Génésis et son coloris violet est la plus belle et la plus rock ! 😉
Pour finir la journée en beauté, j’ai eu la chance de pouvoir me placer en haut de la Tour de contrôle de l’Autodrome pour voir la parade. J’en ai encore les yeux écarquillés et les tympans perforés (non je rigole ^^). J’ai passé une superbe journée en tout cas, vraiment topissime.

For its twelfth edition, the Youngtimers Festival spans two days. The mythical ring of the Linas-Montlhéry autodrome welcomed on this weekend of April 15 and 16 cars from after 1990 (definition of a « youngtimer »). Initially, I had to come there for the day on Saturday, but given the rainy and freezing weather, I opted for the sun and the day on Sunday ;-). Good for me because the final parade, always quite a spectacular moment, came to close the Festival.
This meeting of enthusiasts is an opportunity to appreciate a very heterogeneous line-up of « youngtimer » vehicles, but not only: there is also the oldest with, for example, a Simca 1000 Rallye and the most recent also with a Porsche GT2. The beautiful mechanics of other eras are also appreciated. Top-of-the-range vehicles (Porsche, Ferrari, BMW, etc.) rub shoulders with standard vehicles (Peugeot 205, Super 5, Citroën BX). It is this diversity that makes the charm of the event. Memories can resurface. For my part, a Renault Espace 1 plunged me back into the departures on vacation of my youth! When I also see the craze for the GTI, I tell myself that I should never have parted with my 205 GTI for a pittance…if I had known!
The static exhibition allows you to approach some nuggets: a magnificent Nissan 300 ZX bi-turbo, a Datsun turbo with its Targa roof (retractable), a Volkswagen T3 Westfalia van (folding tent roof) Synchro (4X4 version) or a Golf G60 bodybuilder, to chat with the owners and to exchange some tips. Some put on a show by making their engine roar frantically or by turning on the sound system! There is also a lot of tuning, purists will criticize, but there is something for everyone and frankly some « creations » are nice, sometimes revealing themselves to be full of humor.
Participants also have fun during rolling sessions (4 times 20 minutes possible for each) with 4 groups:
1: The French less than 1600 cm3,
2: The French more than 1600 cm3,
3: The rest of the world less than 2L (multi-brand),
4: The rest of the world more than 2L (multi-brand).
We climb to the top of the ring for fun, we overtake, we skid, some have a field day, others are more cautious. Modified vehicles also run with inflated engines (330 horsepower for example for a 205), it rocks! Powerful luxurious vehicles pass the curves with a charming roll ;-). It’s a real show!
Specialist or amateur, you can hunt in a merchant village where you will find artists, sellers of clothes, accessories or miniatures, in short, a mini village! And presence of Food trucks for the hungry.
A Best of Show competition is also held over the 2 days of the event. As UTAC points out, it aims to reward the most beautiful cars according to well-defined criteria: original condition, exterior and interior appearance, history, mechanical condition, story told by its owner. The Jury Prizes are the Matra Bagheera and the Peugeot 205 turbo 16 for Saturday and the Toyota Supra MK4 for Sunday.
For me, the VW Golf 1 Cabriolet Genesis and its purple color is the most beautiful and the most rock! 😉
To end the day in style, I had the chance to stand at the top of the Autodrome control tower to see the parade. I still have wide eyes and perforated eardrums (no I’m kidding ^^). In any case, I had a superb day, really topissime.
