Voilà quelques années que je prends plaisir à me rendre dans des festivals de musique dans notre si merveilleux territoire national. J’y vais souvent en voiture ce qui me permet d’allier Tourisme et Concerts. Je découvre ainsi une ville, et plus largement, un département, tout autant qu’un festival, une ambiance, et ses artistes.
Cette année n’échappe pas à la règle. A moi, le Printemps de Bourges !
Tout a commencé un mardi 18 avril 2023. Le départ de région parisienne est donné à 11h30, on arrivera, avec ma compagne, un peu avant 15h, à Bourges, Capitale historique du Berry, et préfecture du Cher. Je rappelle que je roule en Youngtimer (et une déviation a un peu rallongé le trajet) 😉. Pour vous situer, notre destination est à 2h30 de Paris, 1h30 de Clermont-Ferrand, 1h d’Orléans.
Pour ce festival, je n’ai pas réussi à trouver d’hébergement répondant à tous mes critères (prix, localisation géographique, annulation gratuite) couvrant toute la période des 4 jours. J’ai donc opté pour 3 hébergements, le dernier étant sur 2 nuits (le Printemps de Bourges se tient du 18 au 23/04 mais n’étant pas très fan de la programmation du samedi, je repars ce jour-là).
Vous l’aurez compris, ce festival démarre tôt ! Il ouvre chaque année la saison des festivals, en avril, et ce, depuis 47 ans ! La première édition date de 1977. Et depuis, une pléiade d’artistes se sont succédés, de Charles Trenet, Jacques Higelin, Bernard Lavilliers, Serge Gainsbourg, Daniel Balavoine, Alain Bashung, en passant par Cesaria Evora, Juliette Gréco, NTM, The Cure (1982), U2 (1983), Simple Minds (1984), la Mano Negra (1988), les Têtes Raides (1989), Zebda(1990), Joe Cocker (1992), Jeanne Cherhal (2001), Nosfell (2004), Anaïs (2005), Diam’s (2010), Iggy Pop (2010), Nada Surf (2010) à Franz Ferdinand, Bloc Party, Editors, …
Ce festival se veut éclectique, en étant le 1er festival des musiques actuelles. Et c’est réussi ! La programmation de cette année rassemble des artistes émergents, des révélations, des confirmés, des créations originales, des registres musicaux divers (rap, électro, variété française, soul, rock, expérimental,…), des expositions, des animations et concerts payants ou en accès libre dans toute la ville.
Ci-dessous le récit de ces 4 jours intenses en découvertes et en émotions.
Jour 1 – Mardi 18/04/2023
Démarrage en douceur, on prend nos marques, après avoir récupéré notre logement. On se familiarise avec l’organisation du festival, on repère les différents lieux où se tiendront les concerts, on jette un œil aux stands de nourriture. A noter qu’une brochure de la programmation est disponible sur place. Sur d’autres festivals, seule une application est téléchargeable. Personnellement, j’apprécie le format papier, bien pratique à consulter à tout moment (et cela économise ma batterie). Je la conserve religieusement en souvenir à mon retour 😉.
Début des concerts à 19h, au W, avec Anna Majidson + Julien Granel + M.
Le W, c’est la grande scène du festival. Un chapiteau éphémère installé près des rives de l’Auron. Et oui, ici peu importe la météo, vous serez à l’abri 😊.
Je retiendrai de cette soirée la prestation de Julien Granel, son univers pop / funk / disco. Le personnage est coloré. J’aime ce côté décalé, son enthousiasme et son énergie communicative. Ses titres sont entrainants. Parfait pour ce début de soirée, plein de good vibes. J’ai lu qu’il avait assuré la première partie d’Angèle sur plusieurs dates de Zénith. Elle ne s’y est pas trompée, l’artiste est à suivre 😉.
Mon conseil d’écoute : Feel Good, Plus fort, Vers le soleil.
Autre moment fort, la performance de M. Comment retranscrire un tel show ? Accompagné de la bassiste pendant près de 20 ans du légendaire David Bowie, Gail Ann Dorsey, cet habitué du PDB nous invite dans sa rêvalité (son dernier album) tout en violet et rouge, un monde entre rêve et réalité, où l’on redécouvre avec bonheur son univers visuel et sonore, empreint de poésie, de ses tubes d’hier (Qui de nous deux, Onde sensuelle, la Seine, En tête à tête …) aux plus récents.
On s’y attendait, la scénographie est on ne peut plus qualitative 😊. C’est du lourd, ça envoie pendant 2h10. Gail Ann Dorsey est à l’honneur, chantant notamment Life on Mars, rendant ainsi hommage à Bowie. Autant vous dire qu’on a eu les poils ! Avec amusement, nous découvrons sa voix en français dans une version revisitée de « A toi » de Joe Dassin en duo avec M.
Mathieu Chedid rendra plusieurs autres hommages au cours de la soirée. Au réalisateur de la Strada, Federico Fellini, avec Fellini :

A son enfance, dans Mogodo où l’on entend en introduction, son père Louis Chedid, lui chanter une berceuse, et enfin à sa grand-mère Andrée, dont le titre Je dis aime est de cette dernière.
Dans le cadre de sa tournée, l’artiste invite par ailleurs une personne à monter sur scène et à interpréter avec lui la chanson Nombril. Le PDB 2023 sera l’occasion d’entendre le joli timbre de voix d’Olivia, infirmière, sélectionnée au préalable sur la base de la vidéo envoyée par la jeune femme lors du concours.

For a few years now, I have enjoyed going to music festivals in our wonderful national territory. I often go there by car, which allows me to combine tourism and concerts. I thus discover a city, and more broadly, a department, as well as a festival, an atmosphere, and its artists.
This year is no exception. To me, the Printemps de Bourges !
It all started on Tuesday, April 18, 2023. The departure from the Paris region is given at 11:30 a.m., we will arrive, with my companion, a little before 3 p.m., in Bourges, historic capital of Berry, and prefecture of Cher. I remind you that I drive a Youngtimer (and a diversion lengthened the journey a little) 😉. To locate you, our destination is 2h30 from Paris, 1h30 from Clermont-Ferrand, 1h from Orléans.
For this festival, I was unable to find accommodation that met all my criteria (price, geographical location, free cancellation) covering the entire 4-day period. So I opted for 3 accommodations, the last one being for 2 nights (Printemps de Bourges is held from 18 to 23/04 but not being a big fan of the Saturday program, I’m leaving that day).
As you can see, this festival starts early! It opens the festival season every April, and has been for 47 years ! The first edition dates from 1977. This festival aims to be eclectic, being the 1st contemporary music festival. And it succeeded ! This year’s program brings together emerging artists, revelations, confirmed artists, original creations, various musical registers (rap, electro, French variety, soul, rock, experimental, etc.), exhibitions, paid or freely accessible throughout the city.
Below is the story of these 4 intense days of discoveries and emotions.
Day 1 – Tuesday 18/04/2023
Smooth start, we take our marks, after recovering our accommodation. We familiarize ourselves with the organization of the festival, we identify the different places where the concerts will be held, we take a look at the food stands. Please note that a program brochure is available on site. On other festivals, only an application is downloadable. Personally, I appreciate the paper format, very practical to consult at any time (and it saves my battery). I keep it religiously as a souvenir when I return 😉.
Beginning of the concerts at 7 p.m., at the W, with Anna Majidson + Julien Granel + M.
The W is the big stage of the festival. An ephemeral marquee set up near the banks of the Auron. And yes, here no matter the weather, you will be safe 😊.
I will remember from this evening the performance of Julien Granel, his pop / funk / disco universe. The character is colorful. I like this quirky side, his enthusiasm and his communicative energy. His titles are catchy. Perfect for this early evening, full of good vibes. I read that he had provided the first part of Angèle on several Zenith dates. She was not mistaken, the artist is to follow 😉.
My listening tip: Feel Good, Louder, Towards the Sun.
Another highlight was the performance of M. How to transcribe such a show? Accompanied by the bass player for nearly 20 years of the legendary David Bowie, Gail Ann Dorsey, this PDB regular invites us into his rêvalité (his latest album) all in purple and red, a world between dream and reality, where we rediscover with happiness his visual and sound universe, imbued with poetry, from his hits of yesterday (Qui de nous deux, Onde sensuelle, la Seine, En tête à tête …) to the most recent.
We expected it, the scenography couldn’t be more qualitative 😊. It’s heavy, it sends for 2h10. Gail Ann Dorsey is in the spotlight, singing in particular Life on Mars, thus paying homage to Bowie. Suffice to say, we got hair! With amusement, we discover his voice in French in a revisited version of « A toi » by Joe Dassin in duet with Mr.
Mathieu Chedid will pay several other tributes during the evening. To La Strada director Federico Fellini, with Fellini:

Where is the poetry, the meaning and the sound?
When I lack art, I lack imagination
To his childhood, in Mogodo where we hear in the introduction, his father Louis Chedid, singing a lullaby to him, and finally to his grandmother Andrée, whose title I say love is from the latter.
As part of his tour, the artist also invites someone to come on stage and perform the song Navel with him. The PDB 2023 will be an opportunity to hear the beautiful voice of Olivia, nurse, selected beforehand on the basis of the video sent by the young woman during the competition.
